NEET 2023 Eligiblity

Aspirants who meet the NEET eligibility criteria listed below and complete the application process by the deadline will be eligible to take the NEET exam in 2023.

Minimum QualificationCandidates must have a 10+2 or equivalent certification from a recognized board, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core courses.

Aspirants with a Class 12 qualification or equivalent are also eligible to apply for NEET.
Age LimitCandidates must be 17 years old as of December 31, 2023.
Upper Age LimitThe decision on the upper age limit is pending, so, all candidates are provisionally eligible to apply for NEET 2023.
Marks Required NEET eligibility marks in class 12 are just aggregate marks for PCB subjects. The class 12 percentage needed for the NEET 2023 exam is different for each category as shown below

NEET 2023 Exam Qualifying Codes

  • Code 01: Candidates who will be appearing for their Class 12 board test in 2023 and are awaiting their board results must use this code. However, until the time of admission, such candidates must have completed their class 12 as indicated by the criterion, or else they will be considered as ineligible.
  • Code 02: Aspirants who have completed the higher/senior secondary examination or the Indian School Certificate Test (ISCE), which is equal to the Class 12 examination and follows a 12-year study cycle, must select this code. According to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), the final two years of this study must include science courses such as physics, chemistry, biology/biotechnology, and mathematics, as well as any other elective subjects with English as a core subject. Candidates who qualified for Class 12 in 2022 or earlier and have not followed any other course after Class 12 must select this code.
  • Code 03: Candidates must have successfully finished their Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science from an Indian University/Board or other recognised organisation, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as a compulsory subject. A practical test in science disciplines should be included in the course. Candidates who have completed a state board’s class 12 or equivalent qualifying examination must additionally select this code.
  • Code 04: Aspirants who have passed either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English must use this code when applying. Practical tests in these topics, as well as English as a compulsory subject, will be included in the Pre-professional/Pre-medical examination.
  • Code 05: Candidates who are pursuing the three-year degree course from a recognised University and have qualified the first year including practical tests in each Physics, Chemistry & Biolog/Biotechnology, and have qualified the first year including practical tests in each of the aforementioned subjects must choose this code. Candidates should keep in mind that the qualifying test here must be a University Examination, and they must have passed the previous qualifying examination, which is 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as a core course.
  • Code 06: Candidates who have qualified the BSc Examination from an Indian recognised University and have not less than two of the disciplines Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology must select this code during the application procedure. They must also have passed the previous qualifying exam (10+2) with English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Code 07: Aspirants who have qualified for any other examination that is found to be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board in scope and standard (Last two years of 10+2 Study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology; which shall include practical test in these subjects) must use this code. Aspirants who have passed the qualifying examination in a foreign country must additionally include this code.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023: Age Limit

Every aspirant’s main concern about the NEET eligibility criteria 2023 is the age limit for taking the medical entrance exam. Candidates must be 17 years old at the time of admission or on or before December 31, 2023, according to the NEET 2023 eligibility requirements. The Supreme Court has heard a case challenging the decision on the maximum age limit for NEET exam eligibility. NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023: Qualifying Marks

4Medical aspirants with locomotor disability of the lower limbs must have obtained a minimum of 45 percent for General-PH and 40 percent for SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology in aggregate.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023: 85% State Quota Seats

The 85 per cent state quota seats refer to seats in all government colleges of the relevant states/union territories. The appropriate state agencies will conduct counselling for such seats. To be eligible for state quota seats, candidates must meet the NEET 2023 eligibility criteria established by each state or union territory body, which includes residence and conditions. Admission to private institutes through NEET will also be subject to state/union territory policies.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023 – 15% All India Quota seats/Deemed Universities/Central Universities/ESIC & AFMC Colleges

  1. Aspirants who pass the NEET 2023 exam will be eligible for the 15% All India Quota seats, as well as 100% of the seats in Deemed Universities, Central Universities, ESIC, and AFMC. MCI will conduct this NEET counselling on an all-India basis.
  2. Candidates from J&K are not eligible for the 15% All India Quota seats unless they have completed a self-declaration form, which must be submitted together with the NEET application form 2023. The self-declaration on the NEET 2023 application form indicates that the candidate desires to participate in the counselling for the 15% All India Quota seats while foregoing home state counselling. Such candidates will be eligible for seats at Deemed Universities, ESIC, and AFMC colleges based on the NEET eligibility requirements.
  3. The allotment for DU’s 85 percent seats would be open to candidates who have finished Class 10 and 12 in Delhi, but AMU’s Institutional Quota seats will be reserved solely for AMU students.

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023: NRI/Foreign students

Candidates who have finished their studies outside of the country must meet the NEET eligibility requirements mentioned below.

  • The final examination that NRI/Foreign students must pass should be equivalent to a Class 12 qualification in their home country.
  • Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and passed the theory and practical tests in each of these areas, as well as English, in the qualifying examination.
