Punjab, a province bordering Pakistan, is the spiritual home of India’s Sikhs. The Harmandir Sahib, the holiest gurdwara, is located in Amritsar, which was founded in the 1570s by Sikh Guru Ram Das (Sikh place of worship). It is a prominent pilgrimage destination known in English as the Golden Temple and surrounded by the Pool of Nectar. Durgiana Temple, a Hindu temple famous for its carved silver doors, is also located in Amritsar.
A total number of 14,502 students from Punjab have applied for the NEET examination. Punjab has three government medical colleges and eight private medical colleges. There were five different exam centres in Punjab and as per the unofficial records, more than 97 per cent of the applicants have appeared for the NEET 2021 held on September 12th. 1. GMC Patiala – Government Medical College
Patiala Medical College is one of the Punjab state government’s oldest government medical colleges. GMC Patiala was located in the Patiala district of the state of North-West Punjab. Patiala and East Punjab union state governments proposed the Patiala government medical college in 1951. Following that, in 1953, the Patiala government medical college was founded. The GMC Patiala has an affiliated hospital called the Maharaja Rajindar Singh Hospital.

2. Government Medical College, Amritsar
In 1947, after the partition of India, Punjab was separated into two parts: East Punjab (India) and West Punjab (Pakistan) (Pakistan). GMCA was the only medical college in Northern India at the time. The previous name of the institution was Glancy Medical College. The college was named after the former governor-general of Punjab and after independence renamed to its current name. The college is controlled by the Punjab Director of Research and Medical Education and is affiliated with the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Faridkot.

3. Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot
Guru Gobind Singh Medical College is a public medical school in Faridkot, Punjab, India. Giani Zail Singh, the former President of India was one of the few persons engaged in bringing the medical college to Faridkot When he was Chief Minister of Punjab from 1972 to 1977. The first batch of MBBS students enrolled at GGS Medical College Faridkot in 1973.
