Meghalaya is a state in India’s northeastern region. Meghalaya was created by separating two districts from Assam. The districts of Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia Hills merged to form the new state of Meghalaya on January 21, 1972. The state is bordered on the south by the Bangladeshi divisions of Mymensingh and Sylhet, on the west by the Bangladeshi division of Rangpur, and on the north and east by the Indian state of Assam. Shillong is the state capital of Meghalaya.

1. North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong
The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) is an Indian medical institute in Shillong, Meghalaya. It is situated on the outskirts of Shillong, the educational hub of Northeastern India. It was established in 1987 as an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and was designated as a “Centre of Excellence” by the Indian Parliament. The NEIGRIHMS MBBS teaching programme began in 2008 with an intake of 50 (fifty) students, followed by postgraduate courses. The institute is named after (L) Smt. Indira Gandhi, India’s former Prime Minister.
